Whose woods these are I think I know,
His house is in the village though.
He will not see me stopping here,
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer,
To stop without a farmhouse near,
Between the woods and frozen lake,
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake,
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep,
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

The title: AT first we thought think that it means a person is going to stop in the woods on a snowy evening.
Facts: It is a person, we do not know the name. The setting is a snowy forest, at night, between a lake and the trees. He stands in the woods watching the snow collect on the forest. His horse finds t odd to be stopping ere and for some reason he says that he has many miles to go before he can sleep. That could mean that it is Santa Claus, traveling around the whole world on a snowy night!
Techniques: Robert Frost uses very subtle hints that clue in that this character is Santa. The bells, and when he says miles and miles till he can sleep. Even when he says he has promises to keep, that means presents to deliver to children. He uses basic words that are easy to understand but hide the underlying meaning. He describes the forest really well as well. There is a rhyme scheme it is AABA BBCB CCDC DDDD.
Attitude: The attitude is very good, The poet talks complimentary of the character (santa).
Shifts: The line lengths stay relatively the same as well as the punctuation. Some commas and periods. There is only the one stanza that explains everything. The verb tense is from the first person view, Santa is telling it himself, only it is like he is looking back at it in a way. He uses the key word but.
Title: The title now makes a bit more sense; now that we know it's Santa.
Idea: The idea of the poem is to silently portray Santa's trip around the world.

The title makes you think someone is going through the woods and something happens that makes them think it is significant. The speaker of the poem a man on his horse, there are no other characters except the man's horse. We don't know anything about this person. The setting is in a forest in the deepest of winter on a snowy evening. The implications of the setting are: "To watch his woods fill up with snow", "between the woods and frozen lake", and "of easy wind and downy flake." The plot is of a man that stops in the forest to admire the falling snow. He is on a journey to keep a promise to someone. He must keep going miles and miles to keep his promises. The exact events that happen are: A man in on his horse in the forest and he stops. His horse is confused as to why they are stopping. But then he starts up again and continues on his journey. The imagery and image patterns are: fill up with snow, between the woods and frozen lake, the darkest evening of the year, easy wind and downy flake. An example of personification is that the horse shakes his bells to "ask" why he is stopping. It has as A-A-B-A rhyme scheme. He uses diction by using words to provoke mental imagery. The tone is of determination. They both have determination in their actions. The first stanza is describing the setting. The second is describing the confusion of the horse and it is as if the horse has a promise to keep as well and he doesn't want to keep going. The third is describing the sounds they hear. The fourth is describing his promise. There is no change in setting. Logical organization is when he says: "But I have promises to keep". Verb tense ,line lengths, and punctuation stay the same. The title has the significance of having beautiful surroundings in the winter. The primary idea of the poem is to invoke appreciation for the outdoors and to tell the significance of the man's promise and his determination to keep that promise.

FACTS
The Narrator of the poem is a man or a women who seems to be lost in the forest, or maybe even just stopping to think. The Person owns a horse.

Characters in the story are a horse and the person. there is not much to tell about the horse or the person other than the fat there near the forest. The horse is confused with why the person is stopping.

This poem is taken place in the middle of winter by a forest and frozen lake. He is here at night. "the darkest evening of the year". Some implications that it was at this specific place could be that the person wanted to be alone to think and have some solitude. He wanted to be alone to think.

The poem seems to take place near a forest and a frozen lake on some sort of trip to a farm house.
the horse seems to be getting impatient because of the long trip.

Techniques

Some techniques used include:

a)The imagery that the poem gives out to the reader is something like a dark forest and a farm house in the distance and a horse and its owner at the edge of the forest. The poem possibly might be a painting or some sort of drawing. "The woods are lovely, dark, and deep" reminds me of a forest that goes on forever.

b) The line "the darkest evening of the night" is a metaphor for saying that it is winter.
c) The rhyme pattern in this poem is AABA for 1st 3 stanzas then it changes to AAAA

Attitude
In this poem the poet has a positive attitude towards the person he is writing about because he makes everything seem so peaceful such as "The woods are lovely, dark and deep.

Shifts
Identify and explain significant shifts or changes in the poem. Specifically, look for shifts in:

b) The change stanzas because first he's thinking about another person, then he talks about how his horse might feel, then he is describing what his hoarse is actually doing, and then he goes on about how he needs to keep a promise and cant sleep.

c) The image in my mind does not change too much as i read the poem.

e) The narrator says "But I have a promise to keep."This means he is defiantly thinking of something that is upsetting him and what's to et others know but for some reason he can't. -sense of urgency.

h) the punctuation helps a lot and adds pauses when needed and makes the poem more interesting by adding punctuation. " He will not see me there," by adding the coma it adds a pause.

Title

Stopping by Woods on a snowy Evening- Stopping at an edge of a forest in the middle of winter. Possibly a peaceful poem. Maybe the guy is lost .After reading the poem, I think that the title might mean that the guy is stopping to think about something on his mind in the forest so that nobody will know he is there.

7. I = Idea
The feeling in the poem is calm and sorta tense in the cold.

T.F.- T.A.S.T.I. Poetry Analysis

1. T = Title
Winter time; going for a walk on a snowy evening; stop in the woods

2. F = Facts
The speaker of the poem is unknown. The other characters in the poem are a horse, and the mention of a "his house". However we do not know who"his" is. We do not anything about the people. However, we do know that the horse thinks that stopping in the woods is "queer".
In the woods by a frozen lake, where it is snowing, on the darkest evening of the year. It is important that the poem is set at this time and place because it is almost like the main character is not allowed to be there, but he goes because there is not a very good chance of being seen there.
The plot of this poem is that a person is riding their horse through a wooded area, most likely where they are not supposed to be, when they stop and are "admiring" the woods. They are visiting this place because they probably had been there before. The horse is confused by this stopping, and is questioning his owner. Some events that have happened are that the character has stopped in the woods, and his horse is confused by this.

3. T = Techniques
Imagery and image patterns - Dark forests, a farm house in the distance, a frozen lake, a horse and its owner at the edge of the forest. It is also dark and snowy, but very calm and peaceful. The poem could also be portrayed as a painting or some sort of drawing in someone's mind.
Figurative Language - "Darkest evening of the year" is a metaphor for saying that it is winter.
- "The woods are lovely, dark, and deep" shows that the woods are comforting to the character.
Sound Techniques - Rhyme Scheme= AABA for first 3 stanza's. AAAA for last stanza.
Other Language Techniques - None

4. A = Attitude
The poem is very positive and peaceful. The poet makes this poem seem very realistic, and makes it seem like you are actually there in the poem. "The woods are lovely, dark and deep" would be an example of this.

5. S = Shifts
Narrative Voice - None
Stanza's - 1st) He is thinking of whose woods these are.
2nd) He is thinking of where he is at the moment.
3rd) The horse is questioning as to what they are stopping for.
4th) Saying that he has to go.
Image Patterns - The image doesn't really change as I continue to read the poem; my mind pictures the poem in a quiet, dark, wooded area.
Setting - None
Logical Organization - "But I have promises to keep". I think that this means that the character wants to stay in the woods but he has other things to do so he must leave.
Verb Tense - None
Line Lengths - None
Punctuation - Stays the same throughout the entire poem.

6. T = Title
The meaning of the title does not seem to change for me after I read the poem.

7. I = Idea
We think that the basic idea of the poem is that someone is traveling and decides to stop for a bit and visit a wooded area. However much the person would like to stay, they cannot because they still have a long way to travel and it is already late at night.
