Not really, I mean, if someone deliberately goes and copies a document, then obviously they're cheating. But if you go and collaborate ideas then separate, all the assignments are different, but with the same basic underling ideas. That is not cheating. Technologies maybe boost the probability of cheaters, but not by much.
yes technology affects cheating because most people these days have cell phones and i pods that can hold information such as notes, recordings, and pics.
i think it does make cheating more common,
but only to an extent. i mean if you copy &
paste stuff from the internet here and there
for information you need it's not so bad but
taking other students work and copying it word
for word is. But you could do half this copying
on paper too and people wouldn't even know.
I do agree on what he is trying to say. In a way he is right about a lot of things. I do not think that leaning is a collaborative way of cheating. Yes, there are many ways of cheating but over all i believe that is a great way of learning.
Cheating has been changed by access to technology because of Facebook pages and so on, but it is just as easy to cheat without the internet, Mr. Nichol said that the students from last semester could just send their projects and answers to us and then we would be good. But even without technology we could still do that. We could just get the students to give us their papers and it would be the same thing. Technology allows a fun and smart way to learn and do assignments it has nothing to do with cheating, because to e cheating is cheating.
i think that with the technologies we have now it opens more ways for students to cheat, but i also think that in our generation we should have way of controlling the ways people can cheat, by blocking sites or by putting in some kind of software that does not allow you to do certain things
Yes it does affect cheating, Because with all the new technology it gives students many other ways to cheat.
But no learning to collaborate is not cheating to some extent they should be able to share ideas to hep boost knowledge but it is cheating with people purposely but there own information in other peoples works. They are not helping the learn from doing that.
i disagree with what he is saying. you cant cheat to learn, any way of learning is beneficial for that person. Although you can cheat using technology, if you e-mail someone the answers for an assignment then yes thats cheating. but there are differences between learning and cheating, you don't learn through cheating.

it will encourage cheating cause all you would have to do is email or text someone for the answers but not everyone would cheat for the simple face of the punishment you could get if a teacher catches you cheating or if someone tells.
Technology does affect cheating. You can go on a site and easily just copy and paste someone's work. I do not think learning collaboratively is cheating unless you do not do your part and make someone else do it for you. If you use google docs however, this shouldn't be a problem because you can easily check who is doing the work.
yes cheating is more seen today with all of the technology like being able to use an i pod to go on the internet and web sites that give you essays and being able to text and take pictures of tests be for it happens. But not all people use it...
I don't think technology encourages cheating that much because I personally think most of the students just use it to get critical information which will help them in their projects, but then yes, some students will "copy and paste" but you can usually figure out who does that, then should be a lower mark on the project.
collaborating is like researching but with the people talking to you directly. it is not cheating unless the teacher specifically says do not go on the following sites ............... cheating would be the same even if we had no computers because kids who want of the hook easy will copy somebody else right out of a book. i agree with the guy because collaborating is not cheating it is a way of gathering information
i agree, cheating is giving answers that are in no way your own. If i give a fair contribution and learn as much as i deserve, that is what i would qualify as a collaborative way of learning, and in no way cheating.
I think that cheating is just as much influenced by technology is no technology. To ryleeee's post i argue that cheating from a student word for word is just as bad as copying and pasting from a website. Cheating is the same with technology or without you just have to have someone that will tell the teacher or some sort of program that can show who copy and pasted. both are the same.
using facts and interesting comments to increase ones learning doesn't seem like cheating, it would be taking the easy road but in the end the information is learned. On the other hand when some one copies it and uses it as their own it is cheating. It makes it easier for slackers to cheat so in away it does help cheating but not intensionally and not to everyone
i think that technology has affected cheating because now people can instantly send answers to each other through phones and ipods. people can also make recordings of information on ipods as well. also with this google docs thing and being able to send people for them to copy is definitely cheating. but in another way collaborating with people is not cheating because thats to people sharing info to make something greater.
in my opinion technology dose not encourage cheating though i agree with some of the reading. We all like to collaborate and share ideas but is it cheating. technology dose not encourage cheating but it makes it easer. And if some one wanted to cheat they could any way.
I don't think so only if you go on it all the time and copy everything and all that yeah its cheating but like if you like just get information you need and that its not cheating.
i dont really agree with what he is saying but in the same sense he has some good points. like yes of coarse it will become more common but you also have to trust your students if they chose to just copy paste, copy paste then they are letting them self-down. you really cant cheat and still learn you may cheat and nothing will stop you no matter what but you wont be learning anything.. if you understand that and still want to cheat then thats your choice and you cant blame everyone else when you fail or not do so well on your exams, finals, PAT's ...ect.

I am glad to see you were reading my blog and now are commenting on it.
I don't know if I was clear in my blog entry and just wanted a chance to clarify my stance. I personally don't think collaborating is cheating. My point was that traditionally teachers look down on it. I don't! I want my students to collaborate and I think it is important. Therefore, it's important to perhaps redefine what it means to cheat.
I am impressed with the level of comments on this site and encourage you to continue. You have a teacher who is doing some great things with you all.
